TRANSFORMING A 23 HA PLOT OF LAND IN PPU, EAST KALIMANTAN

CURRENTLY COMPRISED MOSTLY OF UNPRODUCTIVE TREES, BUSH AND SHRUBS

INTO A BIODIVERSE, HIGH YIELDING, LOW-MAINTENANCE FOOD FOREST WITH A CONTINUOUS HARVEST OF NUTRITIOUS AND DELICIOUS FOOD.

Capturing CO2 through
Forests
In the body of trees via photosynthesis. More trees = more carbon sequestered.

Biochar
A soil amendment made from pyrolyzed scrap wood that can be stored in the soil for centuries. Biochar retains nutrients and beneficial microbes to help forests grow.

Mycelium
The giant mushroom that grows underneath forests. With a C:N ratio upwards of 100:1, mycelium sequesters huge amounts of carbon as it grows.

To help mitigate and eventually REVERSE CLIMATE CHANGE with additional positive externalities such as:
-
WATER RETENTION
-
AIR PURIFICATION
-
CLIMATE REGULATION
-
EROSION CONTROL
-
SOIL NUTRIENT RETENTION
-
BIODIVERSITY PRESERVATION
BASED ON A MODEL CREATED BY OUR MENTOR,
DR. WILLIE SMITS
Microbiologist, conservationist, forest engineer and one of the world’s best permaculturists.
Dr. Smits has 35 years of experience in the field of tropical forestry and has started hundreds of forest conservation and community projects in Indonesia.
